Report: Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions Release Pitcher Jair Jurrjens

The Uni Lions released pitcher Jair Jurrjens Monday, UDN News reports. Jurrjens was sidelined twice this year due to injury, most recently with a groin injury that he sustained on July 14 (video below). Pitcher Darin Downs, who was signed last week, will take Jurrjens' roster spot.

Jurrjens made 16 starts this season, going 6-7 with a 5.38 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. He worked 90.1 innings, striking out 67 batters and walking 28.

The Lions will move forward with import pitchers Bruce Billings, Dustin Crenshaw and Downs. They currently sit half a game out of first place.
