Pitchers Zack Segovia, Darin Downs and Nick Additon to Represent CPBL vs. Samurai Japan

The CPBL will send 26 players to Fukuoka for a two-game series versus Samurai Japan on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.  The group from Taiwan will consist of players not on the WBC roster, with the majority of the team being from the WBC-boycotting Lamigo Monkeys.

Monkeys manager Hung Yi Chung and team captain Peng Cheng Min (Chinatrust Brothers) will lead the talented roster in what will be a WBC warm-up game for the Japanese team.

Notable CPBL players include 2016 MVP Wang Po Jung (Lamigo), Lin Hung Yu (Lamigo), Chen Chun Hsiu (Lamigo), Chou Ssu Chi (Brothers) and pitcher Cheng Kai Wen (Brothers). Additionally, the CPBL will also be sending three foreign pitchers to Japan: Lamigo's Zack Segovia and Darin Downs, as well as the Brothers' Nick Additon.

The competition will be world-class and it is a chance for these import pitchers to better prepare for the upcoming CPBL season.

"I never thought I would play in Taiwan, let alone in Japan," the newly-signed Downs explained. "I try to soak up the experience. I'm just thankful for the opportunities to play ball all over the world."

For Lamigo RHP Zack Segovia, representing the CPBL is a job he takes very seriously.

"It's a tremendous honor to pitch for the CPBL," Segovia stated. "I don't take it lightly anytime I'm asked to represent another team or a country. It's a lot of fun and a truly unique experience."

Segovia's resume is quickly filling up as the experienced pitcher has already represented the USA national team in the Premier12 tournament, as well as both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series.

"I look forward to and appreciate the opportunity to represent the CPBL in another country and am grateful to be included in these upcoming exhibition games," Segovia added.

Both games will be held at the Fukuoka Stadium in Fukuoka, Japan at 7 p.m. local time. Here is a Chinese website link for tickets.
