Game Notes:
  • Israel used a four-run first inning to take command of the game early. The surprise team of Group A pounded out six hits and chased Taiwanese starter Kuo Chun-Lin after he recorded just two outs. The Israel national team would go on to pound out 20 hits in the impressive victory.
  • Israel Moves to 2-0 and almost guarantees itself a birth in the Final 8 with its final matchup coming against the Netherlands on Thursday.
  • Israel starting pitcher Corey Baker nullified the Taiwanese batters going 4.2 scoreless innings. He was perfect through the first 10 batters he faced.
  • Taiwanese pitcher Chen Kuan-Yu had to stop the bleeding in the first inning and was looking sharp until a one-out, two-run homer by Ryan Lavarnway. Chen struck out five in his 2.2 innings of work.
  • An error on a routine double-play ball led to a three-run 6th inning for Chinese Taipei. Lin Chih-Sheng ripped a bases-loaded double to score two and a batter later Lin Yi-Chuan hit a sac fly to make it 6-3.
  • After letting Taiwan back into the game in the 6th, Israel dropped the hammer on the Taiwanese squad in the 7th by scoring five runs. Three of those runs came on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt after pitcher Lin Chen-Hua threw the ball to first base with no one covering and the ball ended up in right field.
  • Four Israeli players had three hits, including Nate Freiman who finished 3-6 with 3 R, 4 RIB and a home run.
  • Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) will have to forget this loss as it plays the Netherlands tomorrow in what is pretty much an elimination game.
  • Bright spots for Chinese Taipei include Chiang Chih-Hsien (2-4, RBI) and Chang Chih-Hao (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI).
