Game Notes:
  • The Lions had not played in the Taiwan Series since 2013. Unfortunately, they already have a tough start because the Monkeys were champions of both the first and second half.

  • The Lions SP Ryan Verdugo pitched only 1.1 innings, serving up seven hits and eight earned runs as he took the loss. The Monkeys SP Bruce Kern was replaced after pitching four innings and giving up three earned runs, losing his chance for the win.

  • It is the first Taiwan Series for Monkeys reliever Wu Cheng-Jhe and his good performance earned him the win. In the top of the ninth inning, closer Chen Yu-Hsun’s head was hit by a line drive ball. He is OK but the team said they will continue to observe him.

  • Tonight the Monkeys showed their strong offense as usual with a total of 20 hits. The catcher, No.60 Liu Shih-Hao, hit a tie-breaking grand slam and  No.88 Lan Yin-Lun also hit a back-to-back solo home run, extending the lead to 6-1 in the second inning. The Monkeys set a CPBL record in that inning with 13 at-bats, 10 runs, and 16 plate appearances.
  • With a win tonight, Monkeys got their second win in the Taiwan Series. Lions must find their problem and figure it out, trying their best to save the situation.
